My weekend...

I am insanely busy right now, but if I did not share the completely exhausting and energizing weekend I spent in St. Louis with you in the 15 free minutes I have before class, what would be the point of having a blog?

A couple of fortuitous groupings among the stars (heheh) led to a major pop culture conference being held in St. Louis, my hometown. I had to attend and present, which I did. I got some laughs, and I hope to share snippets of that presentation with you as soon as I clear some stuff off of my plate, because I think that the topic is relevant to what I do here. Also, I knew that there was going to be a meeting of the St. Louis Skeptics at the same time not even two blocks from the conference hotel. Hell, yeah. I know as many people from the St. Louis Skeptics as I do from the Atlanta Skeptics, and was fired up to go see them.

On Wednesday, I brought all of my luggage to campus and left from my last class directly to the airport. When I arrived at campus, however, I found an invitation to talk at the skeptical event. When given a choice of topics I could speak about, they went with science and pseudoscience, which was fun. Also, I emailed that high-profile folklorist I talked about the other day, and told her that the skeptics were meeting nearby, and, holy cow, she came to my talk. We chatted for about an hour and a half afterward, and she was the epitome of grace and scholarly enthusiasm. Then, oh my god, the boccie ball (which totally discriminates against the colorblind). It was a hell of a weekend, and I'm freaking exhausted, despite the exceptionally heavy workload lying out in front of me for the next few days. There was another Pharyngulation this weekend as well, and I'm glad to see so many people popping by. Hi, new people!

So, I have to teach. Hopefully, I'll have something to say this morning. We'll see.

Not all bocce sets are red and green. Ben owns a set that is, I think, red and black.
