Is the media getting it, little by little?
I saw an AP story out this afternoon that suggests that a lot of people have pointed out that the locked-in Belgian is in all likelihood being used as a human Ouija board.
Coma recovery case attracts doubters
A few important things that the AP could have mentioned, but didn't: Single-finger hunting and pecking requires that you look at the keyboard. This man is often looking away or asleep. THAT'S how unconvincing this is. And the doctor needs to explain how this could be possible. Preferably while I'm not drinking milk. Also, I'm undecided about being classified as a "doubters." I think that doubt is a positive attribute, a prophylactic against being a credulous fuckwit. But I suspect that in the culture it has a negative connotation.
This week's Skeptic Zone has an old interview with Randi about facilitated communication. It starts at 36:18, and it's a bummer. Big bummer. Because weening someone off of their last hope is heartbreaking.

I hope he isn't conscious. I can think of nothing worse than, after spending 23 years locked-in, having some jerk use me as a puppet.
