No Child Left Alive

I'm sorry, but that's just too great a title for me not to use.

One of the podcasts that I can't live without is WNYC's On the Media. I have provided a few links to this fab show recently, and now I would like to draw your attention to military shenanigans addressed by OTM. I'm not opposed to the military. Sure, I don't think that we should worship them like my less thoughtful fellow "patriots" do, but please consider that one of my areas of study is specifically American veterans' writings. Nonetheless, this is low-down, sneaky and probably illegal, targeting kids under 18 for retruitment.

A quote from the interview with David Goodman, who broke the story at Mother Jones:

[T]he No Child Left Behind Act has, in fact, become the most aggressive military recruitment tool since the draft itself. And there are stiff penalties for high schools that don't comply with this law. The Pentagon is now, they say themselves, the largest repository of information on 16-to-24-year-olds in the country; they have 34 million names.
Stop it, military. You are sucking big time.
