Support Penn and Teller!

Lunatic Bill Donohue, who defiles his own faith by his very existence, has started a petition to get Penn and Teller off of the air:

PENN & TELLER MUST GO

Catholic League president Bill Donohue comments on an ad he wrote for today’s edition of Variety:

Today’s ad in Variety (click here) is a direct response to the latest hate speech by Penn & Teller against Catholics. Both Penn Jillette, and Showtime (owned by CBS), are flagging the attack on the Vatican that is featured in its season finale, August 27. Given the history of Penn & Teller’s vicious record of Catholic bashing, we have no reason to doubt that this episode will be particularly vile. In the ad, we cited previous examples of their malicious assaults, especially on Mother Teresa.

CBS management has spoken to the Catholic-bashing duo before, but to no effect. Though we are not calling for CBS/Showtime to cancel the upcoming episode, we are saying that the time has come to pull the plug on their show; their contract should not be renewed. Those who agree should contact Matthew Blank, the Chairman and CEO of Showtime.

Contact: Matthew.Blank@Showtime.net

I ask all HJHOP readers to send in a letter to support P&T's Bullshit! I know that P&T will not even consider submitting to Donohue's weird demands, but let Matthew Blank know that he is funding winners.

Notice that his is a preemptive protest, by the way. That man is such a media whore.

Are we sure that "showtime.net" address is real? Isn't the Showtime website SHO.com?

Hell, I don't even know if that's a valid email address or not. But judging by PZ's experience with the force of Donahue, if the address is real (and even if this guy isn't the president) there will be a lot of angry Catholics flooding this inbox. So I did my part to balance it out.

Support P&T!

Dear Mr. Blank,

I've read that there may be an email campaign underway designed to pressure you to have Penn and Teller: Bullshit! pulled from the air. I urge you to stand strong in the face of such organized action. Penn and Teller fill a very important underrepresented niche in television programming: critical thinking. You cannot allow the forces of credulity to drown out the minority voice that Penn and Teller express.

I am a Showtime subscriber, and have been for years. The one reason I've kept my subscription for all this time is Bullshit!. I think it probable that most of those sending upset emails are not subscribers. Those who oppose the show will eventually go away, but those who love the show will not. Continue to support Penn and Teller and we will continue to support you with our dollars.

Thank you,

John Flavin

I got a reply, two minutes after I sent the email, saying,

Thank you John mb

Yes, it was all on one line just like that. Weird.
